Brain–computer interfaces for human gait restoration

چکیده
Abstract In this review article, we present more than a decade of our work on the development brain–computer interface (BCI) systems for restoration walking following neurological injuries such as spinal cord injury (SCI) or stroke. Most has been in domain non-invasive electroencephalogram-based BCIs, including interfacing system with virtual reality environment and physical prostheses. Real-time online tests are presented to demonstrate ability able-bodied subjects well those SCI purposefully operate BCI system. Extensions also include portable low-cost suitable at-home use, ongoing efforts develop fully implantable leg sensation after SCI, novel BCI-based therapy stroke rehabilitation.

Tangible Interfaces for Art Restoration
Few people experience art the way a restorer does: as a tactile, multi-dimensional and ever-changing object. The authors investigate a set of tools for the distributed analysis of artworks in physical and digital realms. Their work is based on observation of professional art restoration practice and rich data available through multi-spectral imaging. The article presents a multidisciplinary app...
متن کاملA mechanized gait trainer for restoration of gait.
The newly developed gait trainer allows wheel-chair-bound subjects the repetitive practice of a gait-like movement without overstressing therapists. The device simulates the phases of gait, supports the subjects according to their abilities, and controls the center of mass (CoM) in the vertical and horizontal directions. The patterns of sagittal lower limb joint kinematics and of muscle activat...
متن کاملFNS For Gait Component Restoration Post Stroke
Purpose. A multi-channel functional neuromuscular stimulation (FNS) system using intramuscular (IM) electrodes (FNS-IM) and an externally worn stimulator were tested for suitability in patients with stroke; feasibility in acute stroke; and efficacy in restoration of gait in chronic stroke. Methods. First, mechanical and physiological performance and subject response were quantified for 124 elec...
متن کاملGait Restoration by Functional Electrical Stimulation
For over 40 years, research labs have been developing gait assist systems that use electrical stimulation of muscle to restore function to limbs paralyzed as a result of spinal cord injury. The concept of functional electrical stimulation (FES) is simple, but realization is challenging. While there are some similarities between FES-aided gait and a bipedal robot walking machine, there are also ...
